Wakefield Bowls Club
The Wakefield Bowls Club was the first section of Wakefield Sports Club, founded in 1854. The club competes in several local leagues:
Wakefield Veterans League: Monday afternoons
Mirfield League: Tuesday evenings
Heavy Woollen League: Wednesday evening
Wakefield Workshop Leagues: Wednesday evening
Despite heavy involvement in local leagues, one of our two greens is always available for social bowling or practice. Bowling takes place throughout the year, weather permitting, as we are fortunate enough to have a floodlit green.
Our pavillion, situated between our greens, contains all the facilities required by a busy club.
Junior coaching takes place on Sunday mornings at 10.00 P.M. Ladies practice takes place on Wednesday morning. Facilities are available on Thursday afternoon for local schools, weather permitting.
Internal competitions are organised encompassing singles and pairs, both handicapped and non-handicapped.
Accolades:
2005 Wakefield Cup Winners
2006 Beverley Cup Winners
2007 Eric Hutchinson Memorial Trophy Winners (an all Yorkshire competition for mixed teams)
